On October 22 Bold Endeavours held a training seminar “Extreme Website Makeover – Key Take-Aways”. The seminar was dedicated to a usability topic, how to create a clear and profitable site.
The seminar was held within a monthly meeting of the British Business Club. Bold Endeavours is a member of the British Business Club. The meeting started with the Richard Brady speech. Mr Brady announced the latest club news, introduced the new club members and pointed the main goals of the meeting.
The next person to deliver speech was Bold Endevours President Derek Mansfield. In his report Mr. Mansfield talked about the difficulties that the site owners typically face, about the general site usability problems, and what the site main goals are.
The next spokesperson was Vladislav Zhovtenko, the WorldAPP company representative. Vladislav held a more detailed site usability analysis and emphasized the main points one should pay attention to.
According to Vladislav’s recommendations every site owner should make sure that on opening the site every visitor can clearly answer 3 questions: where am I, what can I do, why should I do it. It is important that every visitor clearly understands what the site is about and what they can do on the site.
The next point to pay attention to is to make sure there are no conversion impediments. These are site elements that prevent visitors from moving around the site. The points are: lack of clarity, undisciplined eye-path, insufficient value promise, excessive friction.
Also it is important to add eye-path influences. This helps to concentrate the visitors’ attention to specific site elements. The most important eye-path influences are: size, colour, motion, shape, and position.
Practical training was the next stage of the meeting. All the participants were divided into 5 groups. Each group got a paper with the real site image. The task was to analyse the site on the basis of the points Vladislav mentioned. Also the participants were to offer 3 changes to the site to improve site usability. They got 10 minutes for the task. Then a representative of each group announced the group decision.
The seminar ended with Derek Mansfield summing up all the points. He emphasized how important it is to pay attention to all of these details, and what results one can achieve by implementing the techniques discussed.
Upon completion of the seminar everyone participated in the buffet.
